Q&A WITH DANA FERRARO, MOLLY PATTON DESIGN
1) TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOUR DECORATING STYLE AND APPROACH?
I would describe my decorating style and approach as Neo-traditional, a modern take on traditional style. I gravitate toward timeless pieces paired with a unique blend of color, pattern, and texture. I love to mix old & new with high & low — and always find a way to incorporate a dash of brass and black!

2) WHAT IS THE THINKING BEHIND “CEILING MOMENTS”?
Molly was the queen of the ceiling moment. It’s one of my favorite “Mollyisms” that made her spaces so unique and memorable. The thinking behind the “ceiling moment” is to infuse a bit of the unexpected into a space. It’s a great way to elevate the design of a room, giving it that extra special touch, encouraging you to always “look up!”

3) DO THEY WORK IN ANYONE’S HOUSE OR ARE THERE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS TO MAKE THIS DESIGN ELEMENT WORK?
I believe that if you want to go for it – you should! However, if you are a bit more reluctant, a great place to experiment with this unique design element is a smaller space like a powder room or laundry room. This design element also works wonderfully in children’s rooms. To create this special effect, considering using a patterned or textured wallpaper or a bold color on the ceiling.

4) TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAVORITE CEILING MOMENT!
My favorite ceiling moment has to be this blue zebra wallpaper in a powder room. Not only are the walls covered in this funky pattern, but the ceiling is as well. I love how Molly just went for it here! I will forever hold tight to this special design touch inspired by Molly’s constant creative thinking. I hope to make the “ceiling moment” a cornerstone design element of Molly Patton Design, infused into every project moving forward.
